Is 80 the new 65?
11/29/2011 - Jackie Reed
According to a new survey released by Wells
Fargo, a survey of 1,500 Americans who make between $25,000 and
$99,999, three-quarters said they would need to work into their retirement
years and one-quarter said they “will need to work until at least age 80” to live comfortably in retirement, Reuters reports. The
survey comes on the heels of an updated Census report that showed increasing
poverty among senior citizens, with 16 percent of those over age
65 living in poverty when out-of-pocket medical costs are included.

Laurie Nordquist, Co-head of Wells Fargo Institutional
Retirement and Trust, says that many Americans are changing their views on
retirement age and the role of Social Security.

My colleague and I were just discussing this - she has always joked she would not be able to retire until she is 80. It is not so funny anymore! Retirement is becoming more of a career change then a "not working" change. A mind adjustment is in order!
