My husband has managed to get ripped off repeatedly because he keeps trying to help out someone in need. He's probably poured $5,000 down the drain on independent mechanics who were "friends". He thought they were trying to "help each other out" while the low lifes were just skipping town with his hard earned money. Today we discovered that a car we purchased for our son through a friend's son has a lien against it and a title with a forged signature! He trusted his friend, so by extension he trusted the son. So who do you trust? and who do you help out? It can be a dilemma.

THe cynicism starts at the top. Our government thumbs their noses at our concerns and it just goes down the food chain. Ok, so the big hype in the election is health care. No disagreement here. But now let's include the problem of dental care. Fewer people can afford dental care today than in years past. How, how, how do dentists justify their charges? $1,000 to fix ONE tooth?! My dad paid $10,000 for new dentures; my sister paid $7,000 to get crowns and fillings (both were AFTER insurance paid their portion). Where is the rationale for these costs? Who can afford to pay those prices? Payment plan? Gee thanks, now I can pay you for years just so I can eat.

Wow J, you must be looking in my window! We are self-employed and don't have dental care...I wonder how many do. My husband and I have both reached the point where the old almagoms are cracking are teeth...crowns....sometimes root canals. Last week he was in total agony so finally broke down and went to the dentist. For $650 they did a temporary fix. The permanent fix is $2700. Next day my tooth started hurting. Sympathy pains? My temporary fix was $160 and call the Endodontist for a root canal: $1,000. Then a crown $900. We both have more teeth in the same situation.

AND over the past year I've contacted 5 dentists trying to see if any would do a payment plan. The best they'll do is 1/2 at time of treatment and 1/2 within 30 days. "Oh, put it on your credit card" they say. Or, "have you heard of Credit Care?" I can't figure out how they think it's okay to charge $1000 for a 30 minute procedure when a sonogram is $200 and a colonoscopy is $800.
We are the generation that is getting screwed every day by our healthcare problems. Prices have skyrocketed, we're living longer but medical procedures lag. It'll be fixed by our kids and they had floride!

Bank service chanrges.....phone bills that you can't read, utility surcharges and on and on. I cut back on my cable because I was angry at what they made me pay for and they turned around and rebundled the channels so my bill went up. I pay bills online and one company charges a 2.00 fee for prompt posting. They thought people like me who transfer the day it was due would just pay them more money. I cancelled the account and do not shop there anymore. I feel like the body in Zorba the Greek after all the old women came in to pick off what was left. NOW, how is that for a rant!

Well, I'm not laughing (maybe 'cause I never saw "Zorba the Greek")--I've been hit with so many bank charges that I'm afraid to check my balance for fear that some other auto-pay fee will have tipped my account into the red--again! Last time it was my daughter's Vonage bill--she used my card to get it activated and they kept charging my account--$37.00 for each overdrawn transaction! And how about telecommunications companies? "Additional Sprint charges," "partial month" charges after you've paid the "final bill"--makes me want to go live in a cave...

I recommend disconnecting as much as possible. It's such a relief! Close your bank account and pay cash - no overdraft charges, no service charges, no paper spent on statements. If we lived in caves we wouldn't have electricity, cable, internet, phones, microwaves, stoves...how simple is that! Cook over an open fire. I've never been successful with rubbing two sticks together, maybe I'll bring a lighter.

I really find it disgusting the money spent on weddings - equal to a down payment on a home or a purchase of a car! This summer I was wedding co-ordinator - the money spent on weddings - that is totally disgraceful. What are parents thinking? Even if it is the bride and groom paying - what are they thinking?

How about High School Proms? Oh my gosh! They rent limos, spend hundreds on dresses, go to the best restaurants for dinner and the beach for the weekend. We were happy when our dates got to borrow Dad's car and we didn't have to make our own dress!
We'll take the Internet for sure...

What about boobs? I'm not talking about the lack of them, I'm talking about them being flashed in my face everywhere I go. Out to a restaurant? The waitress is there with her boobs hanging out (no extra tip from ME). Go to the drugstore? Cashier with her boobs hanging out--I'm able to see everything but the nipple and sometimes even that. Out shopping at the mall? Boobs everywhere, pushing out, jiggling and wiggling as I try to have some time with my husband. Modesty has gone out the window. Is it necessary to show your boobs to my husband and me as we're out and about? How cheap are you?

And muffin tops! Oh, my God. When did it become okay to let it all hang out. I spent my life covering up the unattractive parts of my body. Somewhere along the way it became okay to let the fat spill out over the top of your pants. I'm all about accepting our bodies as they are but really can't we find a little self-respect and show a little mercy to those that are forced to look at us??

Ok, no one but Dorothy will probably even see this "rant" since this blog is a week old but I had to rant anyway. What's with the shorts these girls are wearing now that look like stretchy underwear?! I'm not talking about daisy duke denim shorts, I'm talking about short shorts that look like bathing suit bottoms. I saw 2 girls again today and, forgive me, just kept staring at them trying to figure out if they accidentally walked out in their underwear or if those were really shorts. They weren't happy with my gawking but I figure they asked for it. If you dress weird then I'm gonna look.

I back to rant about dental costs! My husband had a tooth ache...dentist says he needs a crown...did some kind of work and gave him a prescription and a bill for $600. He went back for the crown (actually it was two side by side) came home with a temporary and a bill for $2700. He had to pay half at that time, the balance due when the final crown is put in. They will not accept payments. They will not discount for cash payments or full payments. How is the ordinary person supposed to afford this and where do they come off charging like that without help of time payments??????

We were visiting the lovely little town of Charlottesville, VA where I have family. We went for dinner on the downtown mall which if you've been there is quite charming these days..a bricked in main street with shops and restaurants. Everyone was dining on the street and street vendors were selling crafts, etc. We have a wonderful dinner at Hamilton's - a great spot if you get the chance but you need reservations - we ate at the bar which was even better! When we left our $100 dinner behind (yes, be prepared) we strolled mainstreet and then headed back to the parking lot nearby to get our car.

When we arrived...our car was gone! Lord have mercy! We were both exhausted having worked all day painting so we were not happy campers. We had apparently missed the sign...we are both losing our vision, focus and concentration...we found the sign and discovered we were supposed to have paid for space via a little machine and take a ticket and put it on our wind shield. We had not. It was Saturday night, downtown, who charges for parking in a bank parking lot. NO. Honor and Integrity are not words that embrace most peoples vocabulary in this crazy, cruel and "I", "Me" world. But if those of us who do still retain these ethics stop believing in them, and start to live the laws of scarcity, that is what we will recieve. If everyone gave all they had, there were be enough for every living creature on this earth. All we can do is continue to set the example, because we know what those words mean and must remain loyal to our ideals. After all, that is why we women have the gift of giving life, the most precious gift of all.

My rant has nothing to do with 'the all might dollar'. It has everything to do with keeping to the path, balanced between severity and mercy, staying calm during a disaster, and still having the balls to stand up to anyone that dares to raise themselves above all others and stomps on our civil and human rights. I want to rant about our constitution and bill of rights being used as toilet paper by the current political structure. I want to rant about the starving and abused children that live on the streets in every city across this nation, that we choose to ignore.

Didn't know there was a prize, or are you being facetious? I need to put my rant about Joe Arapio into more of a news article or editorial essay and post it on as many billboards as possible; as he is in deep water right now with the civil liberties unions and a few other federal authorities that have had this matter brought to their attention too many times to ignore it any longer. I personally experienced horrible treatment at the hands of this man's administration and his antics and methods are not only against our constitution but against the UN's Human Rights as well.

The health care system is my number 1 pet peeve right now. Primarily because it's such a bloomin' mess! I can't think of one thing that's working. We need to do away with health insurance altogether, except for catastrophic coverage, so doctor's can go back to competitive pricing. We don't need insurance for doctor's visits and medicine we just need fair pricing. The way it is now, we are supporting the health insurance companies and paying their salaries rather than the doctors.
