1809 Mary Kies is 1st woman issued a US patent for a method of weaving straw with silk.

1816 American Bible Society organized in New York.

1818 Karl Marx has a birthday. He was formerly a foreign correspondent for the New York Tribune.

1821 Napoleon I Bonaparte emperor France (1799-1815), dies in St Helena

1847  The American Medical Association  is organized in Philadelphia.

1891 Carnegie Hall opens in NYC with Tchaikovsky as guest conductor
