Hillary Clintons's Suits
4/17/2008 - Suzanne Caplan

I have heard comments that Mrs. Clinton would do better if she would wear a dress or a skirt from time to time at least. After all, she is a girl. And then I heard that she has bad legs and has decided never to show them again. This is a serious issue of this campaign.

What is serious is "who is that woman's tailor?" I have never seen jackets fit that perfectly on a man or a woman. She has tons of them but regardless of the color or the slightly differentiated style, ther shoulders are where they should be; the arms are the exact length and they hit her exactly the right place.

This has never happened to me and it would be a gift to know how you do that. So, once she looses the Pennsylvania primary or the Indiana Primary or whatever it will take to get her to leave, I suugest that she gives her last speech on fashion and beauty. I also want to know how she gets those bags beneath her eyes to go away.

I'm with you 100% The only thing that drives me crazy is when she wears that God awful (in my humble opinion) brown pants suit! I guess she just reminds me of my mother or something in it. I too want to know how she looks so fresh every time she appears in front of a camera!

It's no secret among duck hunters. While hiding in those duck blinds early in the morning when dew levels are very high, we coat our face with river mud. Not only is it patriotic but it smooths out all those crows feet. Ducks don't like crows.

Okay, who wants to start a business going out an getting large quatities of river mud. We could package it under Women Etcetera brand.

Now this is just a personal choice - but I hate the yellow color suit coat - I'm struggling with it. If she could just get past that - and - sometimes she needs to check the mirror with her hair - looking at it from both sides and back - calm it down a bit. Now for the mud - count me in - I used to make mud pies as a kid - I can progress to facial mud pies!!!

I will definitely order that river mud from you!

I officially volunteer to be the Southern Distributor for the Womenetcetera River Mud Company! When I was a kid I used to made mud pies, let them harden in the sun....and then eat them! I'm mud through and through. Why haven't we thought of this before. By the way, Jackie Reed's comment broke me up...."Ducks don't like crows!" Too funny!

Okay Joyce is that a call for us to Beat our Feet in the Mississippi Mud?!?! because my feet have more wrinkles then my face!!! You are a woman after my own heart - I loved mud pies! I'll help in the distrubtion in the Ohio Valley/River area.

I am simply amazed at the stamina the Senator displays. Sometimes I think she looks tired.. but mostly, she's well-coiffed and full of life. Her wardrobe is an interesting subject.. but I, too have wondered how she always appears rested. Tell me Joyce and Susan.. do you think Hillary actually eats the mud like you did?.. or will she end up ingesting only crow? I'm also on board for the river mud.. eaten or smeared.. whichever works.
4/18/2008 Susan Terbay from Dayton OH wrote:
No sure about eating it but she has had stuff slung at her that 'looked' like mud at times! Personally I think she is much more powerful presence and can accomplish a lot more for the country in her senate seat than she could ever do in the presidency seat.

There are times I see in her face, the same look I see in the women from the FDLS camp in Texas. She is on a mission and I am not sure that is it always hers. I gant she is ambitious but I am just not sure about this. The yellow jacket is a loser.....the mud could be how we all get rich. YEAAH!!!!!!
4/18/2008 Susan Terbay from Dayton OH wrote:
I agree she is ambitious but in my heart I believe her goal of achievement is misplaced or misguided. I still think her power rests within her skills on committees to make things happen and her voice on the senate floor. Here's to mud for a 'greener' future!!!!

We woman are complicated creatures and she is surely the poster child for that. Do you think she would endorse our "face mud?".

I am willing to sell my vote for a jar of really good face mud. I predict that Hillary is going to will the Pa primary and we will not get the secret for months.

Both Bill & Hillary will be in our part of the state on Monday. We are getting the full court press in the middle of downtown Pittsburgh. I'll see if I can ask her about selling her vote and I will report back.

Just wondering how many starving children could have at least one good meal a day for the money the very power-hungry and ambitious Hillary Clinton spends on her pantsuits and hair in a month's time? Then, just add the money the hubby, Bill, spends on stuff (?). WOW!!!!!

This is the core of it all. It should not be about them.....it should be about us. When did public service become about private gain. Thank you for making that important point.
4/25/2008 Sarah Harkins from Portland Pa wrote:
I think that Loretta's comment is the best of all. She won Pa with all the money in the hands of the other side. The amount they spent together is enormous

Does it REALLY matter what Senator Clinton wears? Do we discuss what Obama or McCain wears? NO, not if we're truly interested in changing the face of the Presidency. Let's focus on winning in November, not what a candidate wears!
4/28/2008 Suzanne Caplan from PA wrote:
So much has mattered in this primary season that should not be of issue. We are at war and we have economic issues to deal with and we need to hear what they are say. We are clearly oversaturated with media and they have to fill time. So they undermine everything else.

I think the way a person dresses speaks volumes about them -- and boy are women hard on each other!

Latest commentary is that now that she is wearing more feminine colors, she is doing better. Pink becomes here.....Anyone remember John or Barack's tie color. We are so boxed in by assumptions. Hilary, the woman in pink with "testicular fortittude".
5/13/2008 Dalia van den Boogaard from Mission Viejo CA wrote:
As Peggy points out, focusing on a candidate's pantsuits rather than her policies is absurd. Neither Obama nor McCain suffer the fashion scrutiny that Clinton undergoes. It's no great revelation that our "progressive" society still forms first and often lasting impressions of women based on their looks rather than their brains. Even women judge other women this way. There are voters that judge Hillary for standing by her man (some positively, some negatively) and -- sadly -- voters that judge her for the fact that Bill strayed to begin with. It tampers with their perception of how she "looks."

Few people have really listened to the political debate...they comment and vote on almost anything but the issues. Perhaps this has gotten serious enough to change that. We can only hope.

Hillary went out with Dignity. I am proud of her and I understand what it was about her that drove me nuts. Most of it was not her fault. She has courage and she has broken barriers. The next woman to run will no have to go through much of what she did.

What a great observation, Suzanne. I never realized it but it's true....the next woman will not have to go through much of what Hillary did. Hopefully we'll see a viable woman running in 4 years and it will be a new dawn for this nation.

Now, on the other hand, why did she wear on of her worst suits to give her best speech. I liked her in the sky blue best. Wonder if you can relate her mood, the polls and the color of her jackets? What was Yellow about?
6/28/2008 abigail lewis from west hills ca wrote:
She had no good choice as far as wardrobe was concerned. If she'd worn conservative dresses, people would have been all over how dowdy she looked. If she'd worn something stylish or sexy, people would've jumped on that. And in either case, her outfit du jour would have been fodder for every single news report. By wearing pantsuits, she had a consistent outfit in the same way all the men in the competition wore a suit for each appearance. Her choice made her attire (almost) a non- issue. Maybe not so chic, but pretty smart.
6/28/2008 Suzanne Caplan from PA wrote:
There is no non issue when it comes to a woman being President. We do not live in a culture where women in power are easily accepted. Nancy Pelosi got scrutinized and does so to this day. No to admit that sexism was a third candidate is to be naiive. Hilarry, in my favorite blue suit, was gracious in Unity. Barack made an effort and there could be something new going on. I hope so.
6/28/2008 abigail lewis from west hills ca wrote:
Nor are people of color in power easily accepted, at least in some circles. Sexism and racism are not just rearing their ugly heads in this election, but cavorting wildly in public. But IMHO, Hillary's sartorial choice kept at least one distracting aspect of the sexism to a minimum.

I came from the era when women wore ties to try to be imitation men in the work place. Did not work so good. We have a complex job in front of us...admitting to bias and trying to have a dialogue. If the Koreans can talk, you would think maybe men and women and people of all diversity could. This community is about uniting woman in what we have in common and that is not very easy.
